Getting started with GoGo

What is GoGo?

GoGo is a ride-share app for South African minibus taxi riders. We offer two main services from launch: GoGo Share and GoGo Direct. GoGo Share allows commuters along their route to be picked up from or near their house. GoGo Direct allows anyone to book an empty minibus taxi to take them and their group wherever they like. We work with the existing taxi industry to bring ride sharing capabilities to the taxi industry. Live in Mitchell’s Plain since March 2026, with new routes added soon.

How do I download the GoGo app?
How do I sign up for a GoGo Rider account?

Signing up is quick and easy. Follow these steps to create your account:

  1. Download the GoGo Rider app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Open the app on your device.
  3. Enter your mobile number when prompted.
  4. Verify your number by entering the One Time Pin (OTP) sent to your SMS inbox. If you don’t receive it, tap "Resend OTP".
  5. Ensure your location services are turned on so the app can find your pick-up point.
  6. Enter your personal details — First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and City.
  7. Accept the Terms & Conditions.

Congratulations, you’re now a GoGo Rider and will be redirected to the Home Page to hail your first ride.

How do I turn on location services?

The GoGo Rider app requires precise and/or approximate location data to accurately navigate pick-ups and calculate estimated times of arrival (ETAs).

You can enable location data permissions directly through your mobile device’s settings. Navigate to your phone’s settings, find the GoGo Rider app under your list of applications, and update your location permissions to allow access while using the app.

Booking a GoGo ride and fares

How do I request a ride?

Once your account is set up, the app will show you how many drivers are in your area.

  1. Tap the "Let’s GoGo" button.
  2. Choose your preferred ride option: GoGo Share or GoGo Direct.
  3. Enter your pick-up address and your drop-off destination.
  4. Review your estimated taxi fare, distance, and ride time.
  5. Tap "Yes, Let’s GoGo!" to confirm.

You’ll receive a notification when a driver is on the way.

What's the difference between GoGo Share and GoGo Direct?

GoGo Share is the regular taxi route, called to your door. The driver may pick up other passengers along the usual route — just like at the rank.

GoGo Direct is the whole taxi for you and your group. Empty taxi, no other passengers, you pick where it goes.

How are the fares calculated?

Your fare depends on the type of ride you choose:

  • GoGo Share: You pay your normal taxi route fare plus an additional GoGo pick-up fee for each rider collected.
  • GoGo Direct: Your fare is calculated based on the quickest and most efficient route, combining a Base Fee + Distance Fee + Time Fee.
Can I see the fare before I book?

Yes. The estimate is shown on the booking screen before you accept the ride.

What payment methods can I use?

At launch, you pay the driver in cash on arrival, the way you would on any minibus taxi. In-app card and EFT payments are coming.

What if I'm charged the wrong amount?

Once the ride is accepted it shows the fee to the Driver and the Rider. You must not pay more than the agreed upon amount. If someone tries to charge a different amount, contact the GoGo team with your trip date and time. We’ll check the trip log and get back to you as soon as we can.

Safety and during your ride

How do I identify my GoGo Driver and vehicle?

For your safety, the GoGo app will display the driver’s name, and the taxi’s licence plate number once your ride is confirmed. You should match the licence plate to the app before getting in. GoGo vehicles are also clearly branded with GoGo brand colours and stickers.

Can I see where my Ride is at?

The GoGo app will tell you how long until your ride arrives.

What if I feel unsafe during a ride?

Leave the Ride as soon as it’s safe to do so — contact emergency services.

Cancelling a GoGo ride

Do I have to pay if I cancel a ride?

No, you are not charged for cancelling a GoGo Ride. However, please note that drivers can rate you, and frequently cancelling rides may negatively affect your GoGo Rider status, which could make it harder to get drivers to accept your future ride requests.

How do I cancel a ride?

Tap "Cancel" in the app at any time before pickup. You can do this from the trip screen.

What if my driver cancels on me?

You’ll receive notification of the cancellation in the app and you will be able to search for a new Ride. A Driver should not cancel without a good reason and Driver’s can be penalised for too many cancellations.

Account and sign-in

What should I do if I can't sign into my account?

If you are having trouble signing in, try the following steps:

  1. Double-check that you are entering the correct cell phone number and a valid One Time Pin (OTP).
  2. Close the GoGo app entirely and reopen it.
  3. Check your internet connection — the issue may occur if you have run out of data or are out of range of the nearest cell phone tower.
What if I lose access to my phone number?

If you get a new SIM card and phone number, you will simply register a new GoGo account linked to your new number.

I didn't receive my OTP — what do I do?

Wait 60 seconds, then tap “Resend OTP”. If it still doesn’t arrive, check your phone signal. If you have a dual-SIM phone, make sure the active SIM matches the number you entered. 

How do I delete my GoGo account?

Go to your account settings in the app.

The app isn't working — what do I do?

First, force-close the app and reopen. Check your internet connection. Check the App Store / Play Store for an update. 

Lost and found

I left something in a GoGo taxi — how do I get it back?

Unfortunately we cannot take responsibility for personal items left in minibus taxis.
